250 Naxalites had attacked
IG Bastar P. Sundararaj said that six hundred jawans of DRG, STF and COBF's Cobra Battalion were dispatched from Chintagufa, Burkapal and Timelwada after reported Maoist activities in Elamaguda in Sukma district. 

5 teams under attack

He said that 5 different teams of DRG and STF were hit by heavy firing. Despite heavy firing, the teams did not give up but were shattered in panic, resulting in the death of more jawans. The jawans gave a befitting reply to the sudden attack. The Naxalites could not manage to break and disperse our teams. Still 17 of our soldiers died.

The encounter lasted for about three hours

The IG said the encounter lasted for about three hours. Last night we were able to remove 15 injured and today we were able to recover the bodies of 17 soldiers. According to police estimates, he was ambushed by battalion No.1 of CPI (Maoist). His most feared and ready-to-fight force was led by the notorious Naxalite leader Hidma. Sources say that 15 guns - 12 AK 47 assault rifles, 1 under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), 1 INSAS rifle and 1 Excalibur rifle were lifted from the soldiers killed by the Naxalites.
